An example of a breakpoint. The synteny blocks (A r , A o ) and (B r , B o ) are consecutive on genome G r but not on G o . It defines a breakpoint on G r between the two blocks. The sequence of the breakpoint is called sequence S r . We define also sequence S oA which flanks block (A r , A o ) on G o and is bordered by the next block (C r , C o ) on G o . The sequence S oB is defined similarly, flanking block (B r , B o ) on G o and bordered by the next block (D r , D o ) on G o .
