  1. Column O lac represents the lac operator site, while columns O R 1 and O R 2 represent the two operator sites in the p rm region of bacteriophage λ. Entries in these columns indicate which regulatory proteins are bound to the operator sites in each state. The production rate column indicates how quickly transcription from the promoter proceeds in each state: basal expression occurs in states D0 and D1; enhanced expression occurs in state D2; and the remaining states display full repression (no expression).
