The upper and middle panels show gene expression profiles of the cell cycle:G1/S check points pathway and the inhibition of cellular proliferation by Gleevec pathway, respectively. The similarity between the pathways and the conditional change in the similarity are represented by the IS plots in the lower panel. Although the expression patterns of the raw pathway expression matrices appear to be more similar in normal lung samples, it is hard to quantify the change of the similarity in heat maps, whereas the similarity between the pathways and its conditional change is easily identified in the IS plots.
